Addiction is perhaps one of the most emotionally painful issues we can observe in someone we love. Because of the complex emotional nature of the problem it is without question one of the most confusing human health issues we have ever faced as a society. Addiction often leaves loved ones worried, tortured and full of guilt. Addictive disease creates excessive levels of fear, stress and anxiety. It leaves family members living in a toxic state of fear for what the future might bring, as well as overwhelming physical and emotional exhaustion resulting from worry and blame.
For those who love the addicted many crucial questions have remained unanswered for far too long. “Why They Use” bridges the information gaps for loved ones in very simplified and understandable terms. No longer are the loved ones of alcoholics and addicts left alone in fear.
I understand your suffering because I have experienced it too! I wrote this book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, July 10, 2012 By “Something New” (BALTIMORE, MD, US)
I found this book extremely helpful. Being someone with many loved ones who suffer from addiction/alcoholism, I found myself at wits end — Frustration, despair… why are they doing this to themselves; to us; to me??? This book really helped me understand and as a result, I have found some peace.

This informative book is very well written. It helped me tremendously with a situation in my life. Emmanuel John shares his experience with addicts and offers advice in a very loving and professional manner. I have reread parts of the book several times. I recommend it for anyone going through a difficult time with a loved one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book review, November 13, 2012 By Mary Hendrix (roscoe, IL, US)
I was looking for guidance as what was the right thing to do about my alcoholic sister. I sent the author an email not expecting a reply and he answered my email that same day and also offered his telephone number to call to help steer me in the right direction. The concept I came away with is to be aware of enabling behaviors and although not easy you must be aware of these and avoid them if you are to have any success at the alcoholic attaining sobriety. This book is written with a lot of experience dealing with the alcoholic. In the end you can’t control the alcoholic the only thing you can control is if you are going to live in this turmoil. This book has a wealth of information.
